I bought a chuck but it would not turn centric. I watched a video and the guy told us to check the distance between the chuck and the headstock and if there was a space between then adda washer to fill the gap. Fixed the problem.

I got a dial indicator. Turns out my lathe has 0.001 spindle runout and 0.002 with the chuck on. Which is really good. But I do see all of that, I feel all of that with my hand. It was bugging me for a month I'd say. But at the end of the day, all my turnings after turned out fine. It's just the nature of the wood turning. Metal turning is a bit different. And as others said, wood moves!

Hey Kim, the process you e went through. I think only with strong faith and fortitude would anyone have made it as far as you have. I wanted to tell you and your family god bless. What’s the secret to turning mesquite and other hard wood as far as speed and tools?

Hi there my sister in Christ.. I was inspired by a video from you doing a small epoxy project. So I decided on trying to copy it. I’ve done a number of epoxy jobs and every time I take my epoxy out of the mold there’s always small air bubbles and cracks in it… I I don’t have a pressure pot. Maybe I should get one what do you do when you pour epoxy? Do you have a pressure pot? It’s always kind of a pain to have to go back and fill little tiny holes, especially when you have a number of them to do , because it takes forever… I’ve been doing lathe work for about two years. And am hooked on it. I wish I could send you some pictures! Have a blessed day and keep your eyes on JESUS.., john

I use my 1l saucepan inside my 2l saucepan with water just up to the bottom of the 1l saucepan.

Do your boots fill up with shavings?

I worked with punky pecan burls and found shellac does a good job of hardening those spots.

I use straight shellac on the “fury bark.”

Laguna has too many problems for me. I sold mine and bought a Powermatic. We will see.

Watching the chuck at slow motion at 11 minutes area the chuck body looks to be running true even the jaws . until recently i've only had oneway chucks but bought 2 Vicmarc last summer. they are worth the little extra. it might just be the wood for this issue . Also you could put like a large mechanic socket or other cylinder in the chuck to see if it runs true.

Pounding on bearings is not good for their longevity. If you heated the bearings just enough to warm them and put the shaft in the freezer then it would've loosened the fit a few thousandths and made it much easier.

I know this is a little late but your problem is obvious to me. Your problem is the chuck is seating on the end of your adapter it should be seating against the shoulder of the adapter and its not. This can be corrected by adding a washer washer between the chuck and the adapter I would suggest a brass or a copper washer which you probably will have to make as it should be the same outside diameter as the adapter and the inside diameter should be close to the thread diameter about 5 thousands over. You can leave the washer on all the time, and I bet your face plates need it too. Another tip, don't run the lathe with your dial indicator touching like you did it proves very little, turning it slow by hand tells you everything you need to know.

I turn with a 1954 Craftsman lathe and Record Power chuck. Im sure the tolerances on your lathe are much better than mine. My guess is youre dealing with wet wood which is prone to change shape.

Enjoyed your video. Food safe shop safe. I've worked in 100° + weather, here at home and overseas. Just a bit of air movement helps greatly.

you can try "kintsugi" method to fix the cracked bowl.

Kim, one thing you may never thought of is that if you have dropped the chuck on the floor especially a concrete floor one of the jaws could be ever so slightly bent which will cause a pretty big wobble. I know this by experience, lol. It will definitely effect what you are turning.
